With the kind permission of family von Koskull, and the help of many chesapeake people around the world, we – The Chesapeake Bay Retriever club of Finland, had the opportunity to organize a WD/WDX/WDQ in Finland, in combination with the World Winner Dog Show.  As it was not shooting season, cold game was used. We had pheasants, partridge, crows, seagulls and mallards. A blank shot with a shotgun was fired for every mark. The ground was ideal for this kind of test, light and dense cover, obstacles and different type of water could be used.

The weather was hot, about +30 degrees C in the shade. Between the WD, WDX and WDQ classes we had good picnic food and some even could take a bath in the lake. We have about 70 Chesapeakes alive in Finland, and ten of these entered the test. All dogs were Finnish owned dogs, four from the same litter, just 1 year old dogs.

Six dogs, entered WD, all of them passed. Five dogs entered WDX, two passed. The dogs that failed was mainly because they were not trained enough to long double-mark.

Four dogs entered WDQ. We started with the long double mark, two dogs passed this stage. Both of them passed the land blind, but unfortunately failed on the water blind, so none of the dogs passed WDQ. Anyway, these dogs gave as a great final for the day.       

We had a very interesting day with great fun, good friends, new and old and nice working attitude on the dogs. I think the most of us drove home full of training plans and ideas, the goal is of course that maybe next time we can organize the test, all of the dogs are going to pass the WDQ. Compared to our Finnish hunting tests, the marks are long, otherwise we have same kind of elements in our tests.
