“Illustrated Guide” to the Chesapeake Bay Retriever

The American Chesapeake Club’s Illustrated Guide to the Chesapeake Bay Retriever has been prepared by the American Chesapeake Club to assist breeders and judges in their knowledge and understanding of the Chesapeake Bay Retriever. The Guide will help you understand the distinct type features which contribute to type in the Chesapeake Bay Retriever. Nothing in the text or illustrations changes the Official Standard. Instead, it is a supplement to and expansion on the official Standard. The American Chesapeake Club hopes this Illustrated Guide will help to clarify the unique breed characteristics which set the Chesapeake Bay Retriever apart from the other retrieving breeds in form and function.

Thank you to the Illustrated Guide Evaluation Committee for their review and revision of this document.  Additional thanks to the Judge & Breeder Education Committee and the Judge’s Education Chair to the AKC for monitoring the breed standard interpretation within the document.

The American Chesapeake Club Board of Directors approved this revision with the following motion: To accept the 2018 Illustrated Guide Revision. 18:43 (Linda Harger, Pat Baughman) Approved 09/22/2018

“The illustrated guide is a living document that will be periodically reviewed by the Judge and Breeder Education Committee and Judges Education Chair and will be updated, as necessary, and forwarded to the ACC Board of Directors for approval so that it is in constant compliance with our approved American Kennel Club breed standard. The JBEC and JEC will be monitoring all aspects of its use and interpretation to ensure the illustrated guide is being used for its intended purpose.”
