ACC Health Seminar
by Dr Chris Zink. Aug 26,Thursday night, 7:00 PM It will be in the
Ballroom of the Wyndham Garden Hotel, York, PA (head quarters). It follows the
ACC Annual meeting in the same Ballroom. The speaker Dr Chris
Zink, is world renowned for her very deep interest and work in identifying
lameness in the working dogs , show dogs, not just in agility dogs, but
hunting dogs, field trial dogs, service dogs, military dogs, dock diving dogs,
or any other activities that makes the Chesapeake dog use their physical
abilities to the utmost degree. Dr. Chris Zink (advance specialists
veterinarian in the specialty of canine sports medicine) has made many studies
into the abilities of the dog so that we may be able to notice lameness before
the "obvious" lameness occurs. She will be pointing out the type of structure
of the dog that makes it more suited, or not, to the strenuous task we lay out
for our dogs to do. The title of the Seminar is: "I Spy--Tips and Tricks To
Detect Early Injury and Avoid More Serious Lameness. in the Dog".
This also covers "how to" rehabilitation and strengthening of the dog's body.

Dedication for the 2021 National Show Specialty to
Bill Baldwin
Bill
Baldwin
- 12/21/1947-08/24/2017
- A casual
comment by Bill to my aunt & uncle was the start of our lifelong interest in
the Chesapeake Bay retriever. Without his support and active interest/help,
the successes of the dogs would not have been possible. I often told him it
was all his fault, all the involvement in the breed that resulted.
Bill was an excellent
obedience trainer and handler. He took Saxon (Ch* Mitsu Kuma's Saxon Pond UD
WD) to his CD & CDX titles with placements. They won H.S. CBR at the 1979 ACC
National Specialty Show (pictured). He also trained and handled Ch Mitsu
Kuma's Swamp Scout CD WD to those titles.
He threw birds for the
dogs, planted blinds, and helped with the kennel upkeep. We got the kennel
long before he got his garage! He understood and supported all the time I
spent showing, training and running the dogs-it was a team effort. Many an ACC
NSS auction found Bill doing the honors - his sense of humor often pried out
more $$ out of the pockets.
He did not handle the
dogs in shows except on RARE occasions. But he hauled trophies and help set up
luncheons for many a supported entry shows. When I worked on editing the ACC's
breed book, he did all the cropping and sizing of the photos.
Many many of the Pond
Hollow pups entered this world under his watchful eye. They were his "kids" he
used to say even when they grew up.
When I judged, he often
came along - California, Westminster, Boston, Palm Springs and nearly all the
European assignments. His support made everything possible and without him who
knows what might have been. He was much more involved with the breed than most
knew. He said he didn't need the recognition, he just loved the dogs - and I
loved them both. Thank-you for this honor on his behalf.
