Welcome to York Pennsylvania
York County is in
South Central Pennsylvania; an area of lush rolling hills, many small lakes
and the mighty Susquehanna River. We are home to a number of wonderful State
and County Parks which make our area a great place for those who love the
outdoors. Lake Williams in William Kain County Park is about ten minutes from
the show site and a wonderful place to take your dogs for a swim.
“Dogs should be on a check cord in the water, however if
you walk along the bank or on one of the trails you will find places where you
will not encounter other people. Be sure to have them on lead in the main
areas”

A little further from the show site (about 25
minutes) is Codorus State Park which offers everything from camping to party
boat rental.

We have a rich
history - did you know that the Declaration of Independence was drafted in
York and that the City served as the temporary headquarters of The Continental
Congress during the Revolutionary War? The Golden Plough Tavern and Horatio
Gates House Museums are right in downtown York, just a short drive from the
fairgrounds.

During the Civil
War, the US Army Hospital in York cared for thousands of soldiers injured at
the nearby battles of Gettysburg and Antietam. Gettysburg is in nearby Adams
County, about a 40 minute drive west of the fairgrounds and for American
history buffs the battlegrounds are a must see.

Two iconic foods
were born here: The York Peppermint Pattie was created in 1940 by the York
Cone Company and Animal Crackers were introduced in 1871 by Stauffers Biscuit
Company though both are no longer produced in York.
These
days we are an area with lots of small vineyards and microbreweries. My
favorite has got to be Wyndridge Farms, which brews fabulous beers and ciders
and has an excellent Farm to Table Restaurant and offers tours of the brewery.
If you want good food and drink, put a trip to Wyndridge on your agenda.
https://wyndridge.com/. Another fabulous
Farm to Table restaurant overlooking the Susquehanna River which has an
incredible Sunday Brunch is John Wright’s Restaurant, in nearby Wrightsville
(probably 20-25 minutes from the fairgrounds). Definitely worth a trip.

and other great shops in and near the Market.

Brown’s Orchards is
the place for local peaches, apples and produce. They have a fabulous bakery
too. Hopefully in August their café will be open again.
